What could be better after a hard day's trudging round an exhibition at the NEC than to while away a pleasant hour or two indulging yourself with this truly English custom? The surroundings are stylish and comfortable; the service is excellent and the actual afternoon tea is a delight. The full tea consists of dainty sandwiches - (my particular favourite was smoked salmon and cream cheese), a variety of cakes and pastries - the strawberry "boat" was delicious, a choice of jams, cream and of course, plenty of tea. It certainly is a "full" tea too - we didn't manage to eat all of the cakes, delicious as they were as by the end, I for one couldn't have eaten another crumb! The food is attractively served on a traditional stand whilst the tea of your choice arrives in an individual pot with a fancy little top with a lever which you have to turn and lower when your tea is ready - you are also provided with a timer so that you know when your tea is brewed to perfection.
