Fares bonanza for Midland's air travellers as
Monarch Scheduled launches Birmingham base
Air fares from Birmingham are set to fall still further, with the
launch today of Monarch Scheduled's new base at the airport. For the first
time, Birmingham will have daily services to Tenerife - the largest and
most popular of the Canary Islands. The airline will also bring its
award winning service to the Birmingham to Malaga route. Seats will go on
sale on flymonarch.com from today.
The new programme will create 50 new jobs and result in around 250,000
additional passengers travelling through the airport.
Tim Jeans, managing director of Monarch Scheduled said; "We delighted
to be responding to the thousands of passengers who have asked for us
to start flying from a Midland airport. These passengers were travelling
north to Manchester or south to Luton to catch our flights, but will
now have access to Monarch's great low fares from the region's best
airport. In addition, Birmingham is the largest market outside of London
and has unrivalled motorway and rail access, so we believe it has massive
potential for growth.
Monarch Scheduled is in a unique position in this market. There is a
plethora of no-frills airlines currently at Birmingham, but Monarch
Scheduled is different. It still offers fiercely competitive prices, but
with a superior service.
"This formula has been very successful at our other bases where we
maintain an unusually high level of customer loyalty, which speaks volumes
about our product. I am confident that Monarch Scheduled will be
equally well received at Birmingham."
With prices starting from as little £39 one way including all taxes and
charges, and fares include pre-bookable allocated seating to avoid the
last minute free-for-all, complimentary daily newspapers and in-flight
entertainment and a refreshing hot towel service. Regular travellers
are rewarded too, with a range of benefits through the airline's loyalty
scheme Vantage Club.
Peter Vella, Birmingham International Airport's business development
director said, "Monarch has had a full presence at BIA since 1986,
offering a reliable, first class service to thousands of leisure travellers
through its charter brand. We are therefore thrilled that its low
fares scheduled arm has decided to launch its new base from Birmingham next
summer. This is fantastic news for Midlanders wanting to travel from
their local airport and we wish Monarch Scheduled all the best for the
future."
In addition the airline also announces today that it is expanding its
Manchester programme with the addition of new routes to Almeria and
Madrid as well as introducing a third daily flight to Malaga. Madrid will
operate on a daily basis with Almeria flying four times a week.
Tim Jeans concluded; "Today's announcement represents a massive
expansion in our programme, but is just the beginning of our longer term plan
to drive the business forward. Birmingham can look forward to the
addition of many more routes in the future, making travel from the region
easier and more affordable than ever before."
