K – 1 SUCCESS AS ETOTE
Etote has stepped in where others feared to tread by providing the first ever opportunity for people to bet on a UK martial arts event. In response to an outburst by Showsport International’s Paul Hennessy, Etote will provide on-line betting for martial arts fans at the UK’s premier event, the K – 1 Battle of Britain, which is being staged at the Aston Villa Leisure Centre in Birmingham on Sunday March 24th. Hennessy had accused the betting shop industry of being weak and ignorant because of its unwillingness to become involved in his forthcoming show, but after examining the format and form guide, Etote, which is part owned by Gaming International plc, has now become K – 1’s official bookmaker. “When we looked into the K – 1 Grand Prix properly, and discovered what a global brand it is, we had little hesitation in backing the show, said Etote’s managing director Edwin Osborne. “It’s hard to understand why some bookmakers were so cautious, but we’re very excited about this opportunity to be part of K –1, which is such a fast growing sport with tremendous potential. Fans can now make a wide variety of bets in advance on our website www.k1bet.com or via www.showsport.co.uk He added: “All bets will be offered on a pool type basis, whereby the payout will be calculated as the total amount bet, divided by the number of winners. The pool, or tote-style bet is popular worldwide, and represents the fairest system of betting for this type of sport. The money placed on a particular outcome will directly affect the amount won.” Paul Hennessy, the promoter of the K – 1 Battle of Britain on March 24, said: “Unlike the vast majority of bookmakers we tried to speak to, Etote were actually prepared to listen, so we’re very pleased to bring this betting first to the UK martial arts scene, and are sure that it’ll bring plenty of added excitement in the run up to the K – 1 show. Early indications suggest that Manchester’s Mark Russell could be favourite, although there has also been plenty of early interest in the odds to be offered on Wigan’s Shaun Johnson, Kidderminster’s John Wyatt, and curiously, strong early support for Russell’s opponent, Gary Turner from Farnborough. Competing over 3x3 action-packed rounds, the winner of the K –1 Battle of Britain goes forward to the next Grand Prix round at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas, and ultimately has the chance to go all the way to the World Grand Prix Final in Tokyo, where in front of a 70,000 sell-out crowd, and television audience of 25 million, prize money worth $1M is on offer. Tickets for the K – 1 Battle of Britain are priced £18 for adults, £14 for children. Family tickets (for 2 adults & 2 children) are £50 – all available from The Ticket Shop on 0121 643 2514 or BC Sports on 0121 622 2669. A limited number of ringside seats are also
