7th International Supercross Championship

Birmingham NEC Arena February 21 2004

The Birmingham NEC Arena is to host the final round of the Future West British Supercross Series.

The all-action sport of supercross, which sees highly skilled racers compete over a specially built dirt course inside the Arena, returns to a venue where a sell-out crowd witnessed the conclusion to the last Future West British Series in January.

Honda's Neil Prince won the 125cc championship at the NEC Arena in January and will be back to defend his title when the series reaches its finale in Birmingham in February. Yamaha's Jason Higgs won the 250cc British title when supercross last visited Birmingham in January and Higgs will be back to defend his title at the NEC Arena on February 21. Future West, promoters of the NEC Arena Supercross and the British Supercross Series, have promoted events at the Birmingham venue twice before and are confident of another successful event.

"We've promoted at the NEC Arena before and had a sell-out last time in January," said Future West's John Hellam. "We have a good working relationship with the venue's staff and are looking forward to returning in February.

"We are confident of having a top-class field of riders for this event and will once again deliver superb racing for the fans."

Supercross is the indoor version of motocross and keeps motorcycle race fans fed on a diet of racing during the winter when the sport traditionally shuts down because of the weather.

"If anyone is thinking of attending and hasn't seen supercross before we can promise them an exciting evening's entertainment with non-stop action," added Hellam.

The NEC Arena Supercross will be part of the five-round British championship.
The series began at its traditional home of the Hallam FM Sheffield Arena
before moving on to round two at the Weston-Super-Mare Supercross Centre.
Round three was a huge success at the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff, where a
crowd of 20,000 were entertained with top-class racing.
Round four will be at the Point Arena, Dublin, on January 9 & 10.
The series will end with the final round at the NEC Arena, Birmingham, on
Saturday, February 21.
