THE SUMMER ANTIQUES FOR EVERYONE
FAIR
Unique Tennis Memorabilia Display at NEC August Antiques Fair A unique and fascinating display of historic tennis memorabilia will
be on
Among the many fascinating exhibits will be a Wimbledon winner's medal awarded to Harold Mahoney from 1896 which was recently rediscovered in a stately home in Ireland. Of Irish descent, Mahoney tied tragically after a fall from a bicycle in 1896. Memorabilia from two famous American tennis players, Richard Williams and Karl Behr, will also be on show. Both players survived the Titanic disaster. Williams, who nearly lost both legs after spending considerable time in the freezing Atlantic waters, went on to win the American championship in the year of the disaster, 1912. He died in 1968 after a lifetime during which he never spoke of his experiences in the Titanic disaster.
The NEC's Antiques for Everyone Fair features
the widest range of fine antiques and works of art ever assembled under
one roof in the UK. More than 600 dealers from across Britain and Europe
display exhibits of every age and period at prices from less than £20
to more than £100,000. An estimated £40million worth of treasures
will be on sale, including fine period furniture from 17th century oak
and country pieces to Art Deco suites; fine British and Continental oils
and watercolours, French and English bronze statues, pottery and porcelain
from all the major British and European factories; textiles and tapestries,
metalwork, 19th and 20th century fashion jewellery, table silverware, early
toys and dolls, antiquarian books and maps, kitchen antiques, fine and
decorative prints, Oriental ceramics and bronzes, glass, clocks, barometers
Exhibitors at Antiques for Everyone
are divided into two areas - Section One
where exhibits pre-date 1914 and are mainly presented in room-set style
displays, and Section Two, where
exhibits pre-date 1940 with the exception of jewellery and tribal carpets
which are allowed to 1960. All exhibits will have been checked for quality
and authenticity by members of the fair's Vetting Committee to ensure,
as far as possible, that collectors can make their purchases with confidence.
More than 200 exhibitors belong to one of the UK's major trade associations,
LAPADA or BADA.
