Today the gardens is still a haven in the heart of the city offering a superb opportunity for recreation and relaxation close to the centre of Birmingham. It is a place to relax, to enjoy the thousands of plants, to stroll and converse, to picnic or merely to sit in the sun.

Special features around the gardens include:-
Loudon Terrace - named in memory of  J. C. Loudon who planned these Gardens in 1830

Main Lawn & Bandstand  The Lawn is a popular spot for picnics in fine weather and is, indeed, the hub of the Gardens, inviting the visitor to leave the formal Terrace and explore the more remote regions beyond. Brass Bands play regularly on Sunday afternoons in the Summer.

The Cottage & Garden  - a natural setting for a collection of old favourite plants reminiscentof the cottage gardens of the last century.

Pinetum - a conifer grove with pines, redwoods, cedars, larch, Douglas fir and a maidenhair tree, Ginko biloba 

Historic Gardens  Roman, Medieval and Tudor gardens 

Children's Discovery Garden  an area for  younger visitors to get a feel for the natural world. 

Playground - a traditional playground and adventure trail for younger visitors to let off steam 

Winter Garden & Fountain - early flowering plants and shrubs bring colour throughout the winter months 

Rock Garden & Pool  -a mountain landscape in miniature. 

Azalea Valley -a  path between borders of modern azaleas 

BBC 'Gardener of the Year' Gardens & Organic Garden  -five gardens created by competition finalists finalists.

Rhododendron Walk - a shady walk planted with new and established varieties 

Wilson Border - devoted to plants collected in China by Wilson, who trained at the Gardens a century ago 

Lawn Aviary - the home to varied collections of birds around an enclosed viewing plaza. 

The Glasshouses - visit the Tropical House, Subtropical House, Mediterranean House and Arid House 

Banqueting Suites - dine in one of the three magnificent suites. Set in the midst of some of the most exquisite and beautifully landscaped formal gardens in Britain, this unique Victorian paradise is the perfect setting for lunches, dinners, dinner dances, cocktail parties and weddings.
