EXPORT ADVICE FOR EAST MIDLANDS ETHNIC BUSINESSES

East Midlands businesses will be able to call on specialist ethnic
minority export advice as UK Trade & Investment teams up with Minority Enterprises East Midlands.
UK Trade & Investment, the government organisation which helps British businesses export, and MEEM, which supports ethnic minority businesses in the East Midlands, are training advisers who work for Leicestershire Asian Business Association and Northampton Asian & African Caribbean
Business Association to spot potential exporters.
After an initial assessment by the business association, likely
exporters will be referred to UK Trade & Investment export specialists based at local Business Links to join its Passport to Export scheme.
MEEM Regional Director Tim Haq said: "There is a great untapped potential for minority businesses to exploit the export market and with just a little help I am sure they will take up the challenge.
"Training up business advisers in this not only helps their own
professional development but more importantly means that more businesses can be helped to grow their markets. This business growth helps the region grow."
East Midlands UK Trade & Investment director Peter Hogarth said:
"Ethnic minority businesses are one of the most dynamic and exciting areas we work with - for instance Leicester ethnic food is recognised as top quality around the world. Like any other business though, they can be intimidated by the prospect of exporting, and it's important they're well prepared.
"Passport to Export is run by UK Trade & Investment and helps
businesses make sure they're ready to cope with exporting and find out more about likely markets."
UK Trade & Investment has a team of specialist export advisers based at Business Link Leicestershire and Business Link Northamptonshire. For more information visit www.emids.uktradeinvest.gov.uk
