The International Classic Motor Show

CLICK HERE TO SEE PHOTO REPORT OF THE 2000 SHOW

As the International Classic Motor Show (4 & 5 November 2000) approaches, an exciting array of activity is confirmed. The event attracts many national and international car clubs and exhibitors proving that the International Classic Motor Show is considered the most important event in the classic calendar.

From the heart of England, the Midland Automobile Club - most famous for the internationally renowned Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb - celebrates its forthcoming centenary with a special stand feature including: the six wheeled Formula 1 Tyrell with guest appearance from Martin Stretton who is currently enjoying a successful season in historic Formula 1 events and the Hillman Hunter, which won the recent ‘Around the World in Eighty Days Rally’ with owner and driver Freddie Giles.

Amongst the rare cars on show will be a Maserati 5000GT from Belgium, a racing Maserati from the 30s, which was buried when Singapore fell during World War Two, and took 15 years to rebuild, plus a very early Ferrari 250MM from 1953. Special attractions will include: the finals of four major concours - Jaguar, American Classics, Autoglym and Morris Minor, plus a range of restoration techniques will be demonstrated by Leeds College of Technology, sponsored by Classics Magazine and Frost Restoration.

For the enthusiast in search of a bargain, there will be no less than 330 Autojumble stands packed with unusual parts, accessories, tools, models, books, literature and much more.

A MELEE OF MOTORING MEMORABILIA AT THE NOVEMBER CLASSIC

The International Classic Motor Show offers visitors a unique opportunity to see history making marques from around the world. From Top Gear to the International Classic Motor Show, the imperious Noble M12, a fine example of British sports car manufacturing will be on display at the show and is a sight not to be missed. A unique display of Ferrari and Maserati super cars is sure to draw the crowds, as some of these stunning sports cars will not be seen in this country again.

On display will be the 1935 4CS Maserati 1500 that was buried during the last war. Having spent 15 years in pieces, it has now been re-built to its former glory by the present owners.

A late addition to the amazing collection of Ferraris on display, is the 1950 F2 500 Ferrari, the car in which Mike Hawthorn had his first ever drive for Ferrari .

SEE THE KING’S BUICK - UP FOR SALE - AT THE INTERNATIONAL CLASSIC MOTOR SHOW

The very car that Edward and Mrs Simpson eloped to France in is up for sale. The vehicle will be exhibited at The International Classic Motor Show . This 5.3 litre limited edition limousine is the very car once owned by H.M King Edward VIII.

It was ordered in person by the future monarch back in the summer of 1935, some six months before the death of King George V. It is believed to be the only vehicle owned by a British monarch to have passed into the hands of private collectors. The original registration documents clearly state ‘HM the King’. This splendid vehicle was the first foreign car to be purchased by a member of the Royal Family, a fact which outraged the British population and was considered serious enough to be debated in the House of Lords. The car played an integral role in the romantic story of the King who gave up his throne for the woman he loved.

The International Classic Motor Show is the largest exhibition of its kind in the UK with over 450 exhibitors including dealers, clubs, traders through memorabilia, new and classic autojumble, restoration advice and services. For many visitors this will be a fantastic trip down memory lane, for others it will be a fabulous opportunity to see many of the history making marques from around the world.

The International Classic Motor Show is held at the NEC, Birmingham and is open from 9.30 until 5.30pm daily. Entry is just £8.50 for adults, with concessions available for OAPs and children. The ticket hotline is 0121 767 4767. There is a transaction charge of 50p and car parking is £5.00 per day.
