TOP TEN BATTLE IT OUT TO BECOME 'COP IDOL'
Tally Ho! Sports and Conference Centre
TEN rising stars from across the Midlands will battle it out in ten weeks to become the Midlands 'Cop Idol' of the year, as part of the latest 'Charity Entertainment Extravaganza'. A panel of judges from West Midlands Police gave up a day of their own time to audition scores of young people from across the Midlands who have show business ambitions. The judges determined the 'goodies' from the 'baddies' and granted bail to ten singing sensations who have been awarded the chance to join 'The Cheeky Boys' - award-winning radio star Les Ross MBE and Darren Yates from West Midlands Police - on stage for the final. This will take place at the Tally Ho! Sports and Conference Centre, Birmingham on Friday, 21 March 2003. The finalists include Carrie-Anne McNally from Birmingham, Jade Verity Swain of Wednesbury, Kellie Evans from Rubery, Jennifer Louise Jones from Dudley, Clarke Bailey from Sutton Coldfield, Kelly Raymont from Coventry, Kayleigh Jones from Staffordshire, Nicola Henderson from Edgbaston and Toni Austin from Stechford. The wannabe artistes must perform in front of a live audience and a panel of hard-hitting judges from the police and showbiz industry, who will speak the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth when they make constructive comments after each performance! The best performer will be awarded with the 'Cop Idol 2003' award, which includes a framed certificate and the superb opportunity to record a single at the Gighouse Recording Studio in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire. During the final verdict, The Crew Girls, cheerleaders from Coventry, will perform a selection of upbeat dance routines. Darren Yates, organiser of the charity event, said: "Hayley Evetts, who was a finalist in ITV's Pop Idol and Lorna Want, who beat Charlotte Church for the lead role in the West End Musical Romeo and Juliet, are just a few of the stars who have been involved in previous charity extravaganza shows, but this is the first time we've decided to change the format and award a winner". Tickets for the event are now on sale, priced only £6. Call the Tally Ho! Sports and Conference Centre on 0121 626 8228. All proceeds will be donated to Building Blocks, a West Midlands Police registered charity, which aims to reduce the risk of youngsters becoming involved in crime either, as a victim or, an offender. The Trust's patron is BBC Midlands Today presenter Nick Owen.
