INTERNATIONAL FLAVOUR AT RAF COSFORD AIR SHOW Click image to see larger version There will be a strong international flavour for the flying display at the big RAF Cosford Air Show on Sunday June 12 - with aircraft from three overseas countries in the skies above the Shropshire base. Joining a strong entry of current Royal Air Force combat aircraft - including the Eurofighter Typhoon - will be fliers from Holland, Austria and one of Europe’s leading aerobatics performers, the French-based Breitling Jet Team. The Breitling team, sponsored by the specialist Swiss watchmakers, is made up of the world’s first professional civilian pilots performing with jet aircraft - although all the fliers have had experience with the French Air Force. The team uses Czech-built L-39C Albatros jets which are two-seater military trainers. The powerful L-39C was used in all countries within the former Soviet bloc, where many are still operating. The jets operate at between 650 and 700 km per hour, flying within three metres of each other, sometimes closer. They carry out about fifty engagements across Europe each year and will be making their first visit to Cosford. Cosford Air Show Co-ordinator Norman Branagh says: “The appearance of the acclaimed Breitling Jet Team will add another dimension to what promises to be one of the most varied flying programmes we have had in recent years. Add to them the appearance of the Austrian Saab 105s and the Netherlands PC-7s and we have a truly international show. “Overall we have had excellent co-operation from all three services within the UK, which means that the Royal Navy and the Army will also have aircraft flying - giving us a display worthy of a year which marks the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II.” The RAF’s world-famous aerobatics team, the Red Arrows, and the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight of Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane are also key performers within the five-hour flying programme. Tickets for the air show are available from offices of the Shropshire Star, the Staffordshire and the RAF Museum Cosford. Arriva Trains are also selling tickets in conjunction with an enhanced train service to and from Cosford railway station, which is adjacent to the airfield entrance. The Cosford Air Show ticket line is 0870 121 2523 and the air show information line 0870 606 2014. Proceeds from the air show are for RAF charities and the RAF Museum Cosford. SEE ALSO: |
