and Hobbycrafts & Art Materials NEC Birmingham Thursday 13th to Sunday 16th November.
Capturing the creative spirit! Tea bag folding, Chinese painting and calligraphy, quilling, pergamano, glitter art, embossing, scratchart, write n’ rub foiling … These are just a handful of the more unusual skills to inspire and entertain at the national Crafts for Christmas and Hobbycrafts & Art Materials shows which take place at the NEC Birmingham from Thursday 13th to Sunday 16th November. Crafts for Christmas 2003 is a four-day mesmerising feast of creative crafts and original design, with around 200 individual artists and craftsmen showcasing hundreds of exquisite handmade gifts which can only be found at the show.
Imagine carved jade, didgeridoos, stained glass dragon flies, decorative Chinese knots, handmade rocking horses, sculptured glass, gold plated leaf jewellery, natural soaps, Russian style dolls, Carrom board games and hundreds of other beautiful gifts. This is the place to be to find those special gifts for friends and families – or add distinctive style and character to your home - where you can soak up the atmosphere and Christmas shopping becomes pure pleasure!
Show organiser, Simon Burns of ICHF said, ‘All the products within Crafts for Christmas are of the highest quality, handmade by the crafts people themselves. They just can’t be found on the High Street which is why this is such an exciting and enjoyable event.’ Now in its 18th successful year, Crafts for Christmas will be launching an exciting new Prima Demonstration Theatre, where friendly experts will present amazing ideas for a vibrant festive Christmas. Here you can see fresh new ideas brought imaginatively to life with a series of daily demonstrations, including presentations by members of the Flowers & Plant Association, showing how to create stunning Christmas floral decorations that are very different!
There is also a wonderful new Food Court to tantalise the taste buds and arouse the senses with speciality foods to sample and buy – from handmade cheeses, chocolates, preserves and curry sauces, whiskey liqueurs, savoury pies, luxury dips, roasted nuts glazed with sugar, cinnamon and vanilla, not forgetting olive oils and balsamic vinegar to die for!
Meanwhile Hobbycrafts & Arts Material is the largest creative hobbies show in the UK, with a record breaking 150 exhibitors taking part, creating an extravaganza for the experienced and beginner alike with all the latest creative products, some of which will be new to the UK market. An exciting new Art Materials Forum, sponsored by ‘Artist’ and ‘Leisure Painter’ magazines will be launched at the show, giving visitors the chance to try a huge range of arts products and learn from popular professional artists including Terry Harrison, Keith Fenwick and Colin Bradley. There are also two workshops with Barry Herniman and Robin Gray exploring the techniques of watercolour sketching and materials.
Ronald Swanwick of Serious Graffiti will be creating a huge mural for the organisers chosen charity, the Birmingham Women’s Hospital Foundation. Professional artists and visitors alike will be invited, for a small donation, to paint an image inspired by their favourite song. The finished piece will be presented to the Birmingham Women’s Hospital Foundation and hung in the hospital reception. Visitors can also take part in The Crafts Beautiful Demonstration Area. The fantastic programme allows the more adventurous to be challenged by some of the top craft experts in a series of lively workshops - or relax and join the fun demonstrations in the Make & Take mini workshops - or just sit back and watch the daily presentations featuring all the latest gadgets and ideas on your favourite hobbies including card making, beading, jewellery making and many more. The show is just brimming with bright ideas and new and often unusual products including hot fix crystals, gold tooling styluses, marble paper, pre-cut paper flowers and butterflies, glittery motifs and hundreds more. So, come and enjoy these two amazing exhibitions, with one ticket price for both shows that are guaranteed to surprise and entertain! Crafts for Christmas and Hobbycrafts
