FILM, PHOTOGRAPHY AND
FAMOUS NAMES
AT
DIVE 2003

Dive 2003 promises to be the biggest ever!  At this year's show at the NEC on 15th and 16th November 2003, more than 250 companies will be showing a breathtaking range of diving gear, gadgets, and clothes for divers of all abilities. Holiday’s to the world’s most exotic diving locations will also be showcased, alongside details of how to qualify as a diver or further dive training.

Even if you have never been diving before, a trip to Dive 2003 will provide the perfect opportunity to give it a go in the Try Dive Pool. And, for more experienced divers there is a Rebreather Try Dive Pool where visitors can try out the latest kit.

The prestigious and popular International Festival of Underwater Photography  and Film, Image 2003, will be one of the major highlights of this year’s Dive Show.

The biennial festival attracts professional and amateur entrants from all over the world and 2003 looks like it will be no exception.  With thousands of pounds’ worth of prizes, nine stunning trophies and 54 gold, silver and bronze medals, there has already been an unprecedented level of interest from photographers and film-makers wanting to make their mark.

This year, entrants will be competing for prizes across the following categories: prints, slides, portfolios, manipulated images (including digital images), and moving images (including videos and cine films).  The closing date for entries is Monday 29 September.

Alongside these fascinating films and pictures of the underwater world some of diving’s top underwater film-makers and photographers will be giving presentations and talks.  John Boyle, one of the pioneers of underwater digital video, will be speaking as will world-famous photographer Amos Nachoum.

The world’s leading freediver Tanya Streeter will be making her first public appearance in Britain at Dive 2003 following her record-breaking breath-hold dive to 122 metres last month.

Tanya Streeter

Tanya will be giving daily presentations describing and illustrating her record descent attempt, during which she was underwater for 3 minutes and 38 seconds.  This dive exceeds the current men’s record in the Variable Weight category by 6 feet and the current women’s record by a staggering 88 feet.

This latest world record adds yet another title to the list of five others that Tanya currently holds.  She is the current world record holder in the Constant Weight category (a record she broke the day after her 122 metre dive); the Absolute World No Limits category, in which she was the first human to dive to 160 metres; the World Women’s Salt Water Constant Ballast category, where she broke her own previous record; the World Women’s Salt Water Free Immersion category and the World Absolute Fresh Water Free Immersion category – the first time a woman has taken an Absolute World Free Immersion record.

Tanya’s incredible story is bound to be a crowd-puller in what is a packed programme of free talks and presentations at this year’s Dive Show.  Other speakers include one of the world’s top underwater photographers Amos Nachoum, author Mark Carwadine who will be giving a fascinating presentation on sharks, Jacqui Couzins who will be taking an ‘in-depth’ look at Leonardo da Vinci’s diving suit, British marine life expert Paul Naylor and Kevin Gurr and Leigh Bishop who will be doing a joint presentation on their latest wreck diving expedition.

Tickets to the show cost £7.00 each if booked in advance (£9.50 on the door) on the website www.diveshows.co.uk or on the advance booking line 020 8977 9878.
