13 - 14 October,
JEAN-MICHEL COUSTEAU TO VISIT DIVE 2001 One of the world’s most famous marine environmentalists Jean-Michel Cousteau is travelling to the UK this Autumn to take part in the Dive 2001 Exhibition Jean-Michel is attending the show as the guest of the Cayman Islands Tourist Board and Diver Magazine, organiser of Dive 2001. He will be speaking about his work with the Ocean Futures Society, an organisation committed to educating young people about conservation of the world’s oceans, as well as his years on board research vessels Calypso and Alcyone exploring the world’s oceans. The Deep Ocean Odyssey project will also be a major topic of Jean-Michel’s talk. His quest to find ancient pirate treasures, historic shipwrecks, submerged volcanoes and the legendary giant squid follow the legacy of his famous father and, according to Jean-Michel, begins the next chapter in the history of underwater exploration. Bernard Eaton, organiser of Dive 2001 and publisher of Diver Magazine is delighted that Jean-Michel is taking time out of his hectic schedule to visit the UK’s leading event for the sport of diving. I have long been friends with Jean-Michel and have met him many times over the years, most recently at the Diving Hall of Fame presentations in the Cayman Islands.
He is an impassioned and eloquent spokesman for the environment and travels the globe tirelessly to get across the message that our oceans are in grave danger if we continue to neglect them. His high profile means that he has a tremendous impact where ever he goes and what ever he says. I know that his visit to Dive 2001 will be a great success and that he will inspire the many hundreds of visitors who will come to hear him speak. Jean-Michel is just one of a stunning line-up of speakers at Dive 2001. With children in diving being the theme of Dive 2001, the popular Try-Dive Pool will be a major attraction of the show. To further highlight the opportunities available to children wanting to learn to dive the Scuba Rangers will be at the event to offer help and advice to keen young divers. In addition to this the BSAC are planning to organise rebreather trials in the show’s dive tank for experienced divers wanting to test the very latest equipment. Photographic Bonus
