Don Salvo Birmingham
The newly opened Don Salvo's is fast becoming one of Birmingham's most popular restaurants and deservedly so. From the moment you walk in through the modern revolving doors, you are welcomed into a sleek, elegant and yet comfortable interior where good food and service are the order of the day.
This is Italian food with a Sicilian twist - the menu is large and varied, with an additional choice of Specials and many of the starters can also be ordered as main courses. All the food is freshly bought and prepared and no corners are cut in this family owned restaurant.
We ordered Rognoni alla Romana - lambs kidneys in brandy and cream sauce (£5.90) for Robert and Melenzane alla Parmagiana - delicious homemade aubergines stuffed with tomatoes and mozzarella (£6.90) for myself. (This is also available as a main course). For our main courses, Robert had Filletto al Pepe - fillet steak sautéd in butter with fresh green peppercorns, cream and brandy sauce which he declared was the best steak he had ever had! and I had Branzino Alla Don Salvo - grilled sea bass, beautifully cooked with garlic and olive oil. To accompany these we had a selection of fresh vegetables with spinach and sautéd potatoes - all were fresh and tasty. It was difficult to choose from all the mouth watering desserts but we eventually opted for a delicious lemon sponge and a strawberry cheesecake. The service throughout was exemplary, bearing in mind that we went on a busy Saturday evening, we never had to wait more than a few minutes between courses and all the staff were pleasant, efficient and extremely professional. At Don Salvo's, the customer is made to feel special which is obviously reflected by the number of people waiting for tables. Booking is definitely recommended in order to avoid disappointment. Special Sunday lunch and Christmas menus are also available - see www.donsalvo.co.uk for details. There is also a branch of Don Salvo's at 25 Darlington Street, Wolverhampton.WV1 4HW Reservations: 01902 712 819
