Eden Spa at Hoar Cross Hall I recently spent a wonderful day at Eden Spa - the day spa attached to the prestigious Hoar Cross Hall Spa Resort in Staffordshire. As soon as you drive up the drive, past the imposing Hoar Cross Hall, you begin to feel that you are about to step into another world, far from the stress and strains of everyday life. On entering Eden Spa, you are greeted by welcoming and efficient staff who explain the format of your day. I was lucky enough to be having the Indulgence Day which is very aptly named. I began my day with breakfast in the elegant Seventh Heaven Restaurant - here you can serve yourself at your leisure from the delights on offer at the buffet. The fresh croissants and fresh fruit salad were particularly delicious.
I spent a lot of my time amusing myself in the very inviting salt water pool - the ideal place for both exercising and unwinding. The jacuzzis are heavenly and there is a vast array of surrounding features to help invigorate and smooth away your stress as the whim takes you - from massage jets and Kneipp stones to saunas and plunge pools. The pool is surrounded by comfortable loungers should you just want to relax and observe or read a book for a while. The Indulgence Day entitles you to attend two exercise classes during your day but, because I had to leave the Spa fairly early, I decided to only do one. I chose the Salsa class which I thoroughly enjoyed - there were only four of us in the group but it was great fun and just challenging enough to keep you concentrating. The instructor was excellent and everyone seemed to have a good time. The choice of activities is wide - next time I would also try to opt for a Yoga or Pilates class. Outdoor activities such as Archery and Golf are also available and there is a very well eqipped gym.
There are also several comfortable areas where you can just relax and chill-out and there is also a well-stocked shop where you can indulge in some retail therapy should you feel the need.
Included in my day was an Elemis* Deep Tissue Back Massage and Taster Facial. I found both of these very beneficial - the facial left my skin feeling beautifully soft and clean and after the massage my back certainly felt less tense and aching. The therapist also gave me a list of the products she had used (which are available in the shop). I was also impressed by the fact that she recommended that in order to help my often stiff and aching back I should set aside "me" time in which to take lots of long hot baths in a calm and tranquil setting - could I have that in writing please? Eden Spa is certainly a far cry from the old fashioned idea of a "Health Farm" where the emphasis is on fitness and losing weight - here the aim is clearly relaxation and luxury and the latter is most apparent in the Seventh Heaven Restaurant. There is ample choice for each course and the already generous portions can be augmented from the buffet where there is also a large choice of vegetables and salads. The food is beautifully cooked and served and the waitresses are attentive and efficient. A complimentary glass of champagne and box of truffles is included in the day - I felt extremely indulgent drinking champagne with my lunch (it makes a change from a sandwich and a coffee!) but I kindly took the truffles home to share! This was a thoroughly enjoyable experience and one which I can't wait to repeat. If you feel inspired and fancy a bit of pampering, why not take a look at the web site at www.edenspa.co.uk - you could always ask for some gift vouchers for Christmas - you know you deserve it!
