mac Productions presents

THE EMPEROR’S NEW CLOTHES

Birmingham’s very own mac Productions presents another fantastic family Christmas show, The Emperor’s New Clothes. As a regional and national centre for theatre for children and young people, mac presents a very special production for the Midlands; full of the magic and excitement associated with mac Productions’ work. 

mac is delighted that acclaimed director, Jonathan Paul Savage has returned to work on this year’s show. Once again mac Productions brings you a quality performance: expect magical sets that will transport you to an eastern paradise full of imperial splendour, with amazing shadow puppets, colourful costumes, beautiful masks and sing-a-long music.

The Emperor is a very vain man, whose only worry in life is to dress in elegant clothes. But when he offers a prize for the person who makes him the most fabulous suit of clothes, he finds himself the victim of an elaborate hoax. He is told that a special cloth is so magical that it will appear invisible to stupid people. When his outfit is finished, no one in the Emperor’s court dares to tell him they can’t see the cloth. As the Emperor parades proudly through the crowded streets of his city, in his fine new suit of clothes, a small child, who has not heard about the magical cloth, shouts out that ‘the Emperor has nothing on’…

With a sparkling new script written especially for mac by acclaimed writer Neil Duffield, The Emperor’s New Clothes will reunite the same team that were behind last year’s hugely successful festive show The Snow Queen.
