BBC GARDENERS’ WORLD
LIVE RETURNS TO BLOOM AT THE NEC
AS PART OF THE BBC SUMMER FESTIVAL 2008
11-15 June
The NEC, Birmingham
Flaming June sees the return of the hugely popular
BBC Gardeners’ World Live at The NEC,
Birmingham. This annual gardeners’ delight will be taking place
at the BBC Summer Festival which also
incorporates the BBC Good Food Show Summer
and dedicated Good Homes and Countryfile
magazine areas, as well as a brand new central feature bringing a
sustainable future to life.
Amidst displays of some truly stunning blooms and breathtaking show gardens,
BBC Gardeners’ World Live will bring an
exciting combination of the established favourites and some great new
features.
The Celebrity Theatre will see the green fingers of gardening experts such
as Monty Don, Alan Titchmarsh, Joe Swift and Carol Klein weaving their magic
and imparting invaluable advice to audiences. They will be joined in the
Celebrity Theatre by Ben Fogle and John Craven from Countryfile who will be
sharing tales from the past 20 years of the ever popular programme.

The Show Gardens are a huge draw at every BBC
Gardeners’ World Live and this year will be no exception with
themes ranging from “The Good Life” and the annual Wildebeest migration in
Nairobi to a Roccoco Fantasy garden featuring a Potting Shed! Located near
the show gardens will be the Dining Experience where visitors can enjoy a
taste of the very best cuisine from top local restaurants and in the
extended evening opening hours, musical entertainment will provide a
relaxing background ambience for both the Dining Experience and Show
Gardens.

In the RHS Floral Marquee the competition will be as tight as ever with 100
nurseries trying to mount the best displays using the healthiest and most
unusual varieties in the hope of winning one of the coveted RHS medals. Over
at the Grow Your Own Theatre the emphasis will be on advice for producing
the best tasting fruit, vegetables and herbs that can be freshly picked from
your very own garden, helping you grow your way to five a day.
New for this year will be a special floristry section with truly impressive
displays and an Orchid feature which will bring an oriental flavour. A
stroll down the Gardeners’ Lanes, through the Gardeners’ Market and Crescent
and down the Avenue will give the ideal opportunity to buy some high quality
and unusual gardeners’ gifts, gadgets or accessories. While the
environmentally conscious should look out for the greener living section
which will have some great ideas on how to “go green” in the garden.
Growing, enjoying and preserving the natural world around us will be a
central theme throughout the rest of the Summer Festival. The
thought-provoking central feature will be encouraging all visitors to travel
wisely, save resources, shop fairly and save energy in every aspect of their
lives. The Countryfile magazine area will be inspiring visitors to explore
and protect the great outdoors and four themed areas hosted by Good Homes
magazine will appeal to all homeowners including the Fifth Room area which
will focus on making the most of conservatories and garden rooms. At the BBC
Good Food Show Summer, a host of celebrity chefs and top exhibitors will be
encouraging everyone to enjoy the very best and freshest locally produced
food, with an emphasis on al fresco dining.
