JOIN THE STARS AT THE BENSON AND HEDGES CELEBRITY PRO-AM The £1.1 million Benson and Hedges International Open golf is the first British event of this year's European Tour and takes place from May 9-12 at The De Vere Belfry, near Birmingham, venue for this year's rescheduled Ryder Cup.
Jimmy Tarbuck with Jose Maria Olazabal (last years tournament) The tournament is preceded by the traditional Celebrity Pro-Am on May 8, in which stars from the world of show business and sport tee-off with the leading professional golfers, which this year will include Colin Montgomerie, Nick Faldo, John Daly, Retief Goosen and Lee Westwood.

Celebrities from show business and sport will be putting their golfing skills to the test alongside the European Tour’s leading professional golfers in the Benson and Hedges International Open Celebrity Pro-Am at The De Vere Belfry on Wednesday, May 8. Legendary goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel, who recently left Aston Villa for newly promoted Manchester City, Sir Bobby Charlton, Alan Hansen and Kenny Dalglish will be flying the flag for the football fraternity, while among the other sporting stars swinging a club will be athletes Steve Backley and John Regis, Olympic rowing champion Matthew Pinsent, former snooker world champions Stephen Hendry, Ken Doherty, John Parrott, Dennis Taylor and Cliff Thorburn, England rugby coach Clive Woodward, former British Lions Jeremy Guscott, Mike Catt and Matt Dawson and two of the most popular personalities from the world of cricket, Ian Botham and Alan Donald. Golf and show business have always enjoyed close links and among the small screen entertainers who will be hoping for a good performance are Johnny Briggs, better known as Coronations Street’s Mike Baldwin, Ronnie Corbett, Bobby Davro, Tom O’Connor and Jimmy Tarbuck. The Benson and Hedges Celebrity Pro-Am precedes the £1.1million Benson and Hedges International Open, from May 9-12, which features many of the world’s leading players including John Daly, Retief Goosen, Colin Montgomerie, Nick Faldo, Jose Maria Olazabal, Padraig Harrington and Bernhard Langer.
