KINGS HEATH CARNIVAL took place on one of the sunniest Saturdays of the year. The event was a great success and enjoyed by all.
OFFICERS TAKE TARGETED APPROACH TO BEAT BOGUS OFFICIALS Crime reduction officer Constable Nick Gant explained that police have been giving security and safety advice in these areas stressing the importance of always asking who is at the door before opening it. "If the door has a chain, it should be put on before opening," he said. "Some of these burglars often wear convincing uniforms and carry ID. This should always be checked as a matter of precaution and the chain must be kept on while this is being done." He added: "Genuine callers won't mind waiting. If the occupier is still not sure they can ask the caller to come back later while they contact the caller's organisation to confirm their story. However, it's important get the number from the telephone directory and not ring the one given by the caller. People shouldn't feel pressured into opening the door to anyone." Several grants have been applied for under the Home Energy Efficiency
Scheme (HEES). This is open to anyone aged 60 or over who is in receipt
of income support, council tax, housing and other benefits. If successful
then a grant of up to £2,000 pounds may be awarded for home improvements
including security. For further information contact PC Gant on 0121 626
