Mela 2004
NEC, Birmingham
8th. - 10th. October 2004

Mela Magic Returns to Birmingham City

The Birmingham NEC will play host to a vibrant showcase of Asian culture during a three-day extravaganza on Friday 8th, Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th October 2004. The show includes five pavilions featuring interactive stands and entertainment for the whole family, from fashion shows, food bazaars, a career village and music stage.

Western Union, the UK’s leading money transfer company, is sponsoring the ITV Central Celebrity Theatre where you can get up close and personal with leading British Asian artists plus witness an exclusive interview with Bollywood superstar Hrithik Roshan, star of smash hit movie Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, which entered number 3 in the UK box office charts. The Celebrity Theatre will also give visitors the chance to win top of the range DVD players, courtesy of Western Union.

Joining Western Union will be up and coming fashion designer Kiran Khan, 27, from Burton-on Trent, Staffordshire, who will showcase a dazzling array of her latest cuts and designs which combine traditional elements of period costumes with contemporary fabrics and luxurious embroideries of today. Back in January 2004 Kiran won the Western Union Wedding Outfit Competition and saw her design professionally made and modelled. Kiran comments, “Winning the Western Union competition was just the boost I needed to really launch my career in what is such a competitive industry. I look forward to showcasing my new designs at the Western Union stand.”

John Campbell, Head of Marketing for FEXCO MT, Western Union’s UK representative, comments, “Western Union has sponsored a host of UK melas this year. They are a very important way of reaching out to the South Asian community in the UK. We recognise that they provide an important opportunity for all communities to get together and celebrate and are proud to be a part of this.”
