Mirrorworld hits hometown
Local author and illustrator Stephen Jackson recently visited Waterstones in Solihull to celebrate the launch of his book Mirrorworld. Mirrorworld is an optical illusion adventure book. Children must use mirrors to discover characters and monsters hidden in the pictures. It’s an unusual idea but the reviews have been great. The Sunday Times said, “It’s a fantastic idea and brilliantly produced… Mirrorworld is addictive,” and the Daily Echo said that Mirrorworld is “set to take the nation by storm.”
The book is pitched at 9 to 11s – but bright 7 year-olds soon master it. “The kids grasp the idea straight away,” says Stephen, “though I’m afraid the adults are a bit slower…” Mirrorworld has been launched across the world from New Zealand to Norfolk in the last few weeks and Stephen has been on tour to promote it – but he was determined to celebrate in Solihull.
“The official launch was at Hamleys in London – which was a great honour – but I wanted to do something in my hometown so that I could force all my friends to buy a book,” laughed Stephen. “Fortunately Waterstones agree with me!” Mirrorworld by Stephen Jackson is published by Hutchinson, £9.99 in hardback (mirrors included).
