The Moat House
We recently spent a night at the delightful Moat House Hotel in Acton Trussell, Staffordshire. The original building, a fourteenth century manor house, now houses the hotel's Bar Brasserie, the Conservatory Restaurant and the Colin Lewis Suite whilst the hotels 41 luxury bedrooms are in the newer extension. The emphasis is on comfort and luxury and the Moat House manages to skilfully combine all the elements you would expect to find in a four star hotel with friendly little touches like the welcoming teddybear on your bed.
The staff of this family run hotel are friendly and efficient helping to make any stay a happy one. Our well appointed room, overlooking the canal, contained all that you would need to make your stay as comfortable as possible, including flat screen TV and ISDN. There are also four suites available - some with four poster beds.
The hotel and its attractive grounds make it an ideal wedding venue too with plenty of scope for photos.
Originally belonging to the Trussell family, by 1658, the Manor house had passed to William Anson of Shugborough and remained in that family until it was bought by the Lewis family in 1955. It was converted into a restaurant and village pub in 1988 and upgraded to a 21 bedroom luxury hotel and conference centre in 1997. Further improvements and extensions were made in 2006 developing the Moat House into the luxury hotel we see today.
