Check out also the bottom of the page for our FREE COMPETITION FOR TICKETS to this event. This really must be one of the best competitions that we have ever run with 10 PAIRS OF TICKETS to be be won to this truly top class and spectacular event.

We will shortly have the full event details for you , but until then here is a brief background to the FIA Sportscar Championship series and some photos to wet your appetite. !!

Having been one of the most spectacular and evocative disciplines of motorsport through the days of Porsche, Ford, Matra and Ferrari; Sportscar Racing has a rich heritage in motorsport. However, to keep this going on a long term basis has proved difficult to achieve but at last the new FIA Sportscar Championship offers controlled costs, stable regulations and above all, exciting racing.

Regenerated by the introduction of the ISRS and then the SportsRacing World Cup throughout the late nineties, Sportscar racing has entered a period of renewed health and prosperity that culminated in the announcement in October 2000 of the FIA Sportscar Championship. With this endorsement of faith by World Motorsports Governing body the championship is set to blossom even more in 2001.

All the races are at top level international circuits with the best racing and VIP hospitality facilities that incorporate a business club where sponsors and the media can sample the championships website and television resources, that are set to expand considerably in 2001.

There are new constructors that are producing cars or are in the process of designing and building cars every year, from those who only build one or two to race themselves, through to the largest constructors of racing cars, Lola and Reynard, Riley & Scott and Dome. There are also a variety of high profile engine makers in the series such as BMW, Peugeot, Alfa Romeo, Ford and Nissan.

These companies are all building their new cars to FIA regulations and their unique system of price capping. These conditions, allied to their insistence that manufacturers sell cars identical to those they race to private teams, has ensured new found stability and close racing which in turn leads to large and varied grids.

There is a cosmopolitan, relaxed but professional atmosphere in the paddock where drivers and team members happily mingle with the public and the majority of the teams put their rivalries behind them and enjoy lunch under the same roof in the championship headquarters. It is another indication that the stable and value for money racing that has been achieved has given the new look championship a strong platform to promote the FIA Sportscar Championship at the highest levels.
