Be surprised at the amazing number of sports organisations at this year`s Mobility Roadshow. Visitors to this years Mobility Roadshow - 12-14 June at Donington Park near Derby might be surprised to see the large number of sports and leisure organisations participating; including flying, sail boats and trimarans, angling, keep fit and exercise equipment for disabled people. An exciting new exhibitor to the Roadshow is Aviation for Paraplegics and Tetraplegics (APT). This unique flying school is open to students with most disabilities, as long as they have the use of both arms, teaching them to fly using specially adapted microlight aircraft. As a student of APT, Sean Wilson enthuses: it doesn`t just teach people to fly it enables them to spread their wings in their community. Having been awarded a lottery grant this year, the flying school is finally able to spread its wings to the Roadshow to promote the club and a new scholarship scheme. Anyone interested in sailing, but thought the sport would not be easily accessible, will be pleasantly surprised by two newcomers to this year`s Roadshow - both cater for most disabilities. Challenger Class Association is a sailing organisation operating with Trimaran boats specifically designed for disabled sailors. Whatever the level of individual skill, the emphasis is on fun and safety. The Trimaran is fast but virtually impossible to capsise. The first few lessons are taken with an instructor and students are gradually encouraged to become more independent in the boat as their capability increases. RYA Sailability promotes the idea that sailing really is for everyone. Boats are adapted to suit different disabilities including foot steering and an ingenious joystick for chin control. Some students are trained to paralymic standard. The adaptations that RYA Sailability makes to sailing boats ensure students can enjoy the freedom of the water in an integrated environment. The Wheelyboats, promoted by the Handicapped Anglers Trust, were initially designed to aid disabled fisherman to get in and out of boats with dignity and independence. They have now become so popular that disabled individuals and fishing clubs use them nationwide for a variety of leisure activities including bird-watching, painting, or treating the family to a picnic on the water. Unique Sport will also be at the Roadshow launching it`s new cardiovascular machines for wheelchair users the Aero-Trak and Aero-Ski. They are an original development in enabling disabled people to train and keep-fit and are reasonably priced for individual ownership. The Mobility Roadshow is a free event. It is also a fantastic opportunity for those with mobility problems to test drive adapted cars from major motor manufacturers on the world famous Donington Park race track, and to try out the latest products to aid mobility, from more than 180 exhibitors. Over 100 cars avaliable to test drive from more than 20 major motor manufacturers. Around 100 adapted cars from over 20 major motor manufacturers, from top-of-the-range high performance cars and MPVs to small run-arounds all fitted with a variety of adaptations are available to test drive, either as a driver or passenger. The test drive facility is available whether people have a vehicle through the Motability scheme or as a private owner. Visitors wishing to take test drives simply need to complete a registration form - this can be done in advance via the Roadshow website at www.justmobility.co.uk/roadshow - and bring along their driving licence (full or provisional) to the show. Kia Motors is making its debut at the Roadshow and featuring a range of vehicles that includes Rio, Carens, Sportage and Sedona models. The new Volkswagen Touran, a compact MPV, will be on show for the first time, promising a highly adaptable interior for those experiencing difficulties with movement. Ford will show its new Ford Focus C-MAX, due on the Motability scheme later this year; Toyota will have its biggest stand ever with new swivel seat options in the Toyota Yaris and Yaris Verso and the all-new Vauxhall Meriva mini MPV will lead the pack on the Vauxhall stand. Peugeot will feature its 807 Estate, at the Roadshow for the first time. Mercedes Benz makes a welcome return to the show with its A-Class and Smart car models. Spanish Vehicle manufacturer, Vexel Automocion S.L., will be launching Europe`s first inclusively designed standard car that can be driven from a wheelchair. The UK has been selected as the first country outside Spain in which to launch the competitively priced Vexel Quovis (above) - a vehicle specially designed for people with reduced mobility or physical disability.
