VSCC returns to Oulton Park in
2005 after seven-year absence
Vintage car club moves Hawthorn Trophies meeting to North
West
Vintage racing cars will return to Oulton Park (Cheshire) after
a seven-year absence, when the Vintage Sports Car Club (VSCC) will honour one of
Britain’s greatest motor racing heroes on May 28.
The Mike Hawthorn Trophies meeting has been traditionally staged at Silverstone
but the VSCC, which has not run a meeting at Oulton since 1998, have moved it to
the picturesque parkland setting of Oulton Park for 2005 as part of a joint
commitment between the club and circuit owner, MotorSport Vision.
Three races (Hawthorn Memorial Trophy for pre-1961 front-engined F1, F2 and
Tasman cars, the Hawthorn Spanish Trophy for pre-1952 racing cars and the
Hawthorn International Trophy for 1950s sports racing cars), will be dedicated
to 1958 Formula 1 World Champion, Mike Hawthorn.
With the Oulton Park Gold Cup already a famous and well-established meeting in
August, MSV Chief Executive Jonathan Palmer is keen to establish a second
classic car meeting at the North West venue. Before the VSCC’s seven-year
absence from Oulton, the club raced there regularly for 50 years.
"We are keen to re-establish a strong relationship with the VSCC and as such the
Hawthorn Trophies meeting has been scheduled into Oulton Park’s calendar until
at least 2007," explained Palmer. "I believe that by then we will have developed
the meeting into one of the season’s major historic racing attractions, and that
it will go from strength to strength.
"The VSCC has a long and successful history with Oulton Park and the circuit
lends itself perfectly to the gorgeous and fascinating cars that compete in its
events. We are keen to offer race fans in the North West the best in historic
and vintage motorsport, exemplified by the Gold Cup and Hawthorn Trophies
meetings."
The 10-race meeting will also include a pre-1966 HGPCA race, the Boulogne Trophy
for vintage racing cars and the Brooklands and Goddard Trophies for large-engined
Brooklands cars.
Tickets for the May 28 event will cost £12 in advance or £15 on the day. Book
advance tickets by calling 0870 950 9000 or logging on to
