Aston Martin V8 Vantage Le Mans pulls the crowds

One of the last of 40 Aston Martin V8 Vantage Le Mans cars built ,which has been attracting attention at the company's display, at the British International Motor Show, NEC Birmingham. The car is powered by a 5340 cc Twin alloy overhead camshaft engine and retails at £190,000.

Despite a relatively small offering the Aston Martin stand has generated a large amount of interest at the British International Motor Show with fans lining up four deep at times just to get a glimpse of the special edition V8 Vantage Le Mans. Making its final appearance the twin supercharged 600 horsepower V8 Vantage Le Mans , with a price tag of GBP190,000 is just one of 40 models built to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Aston Martin's victory at Le Mans. The special edition, which can accelerate to 100 mph in less than 10 seconds, has also been built to mark the company's achievement at becoming the first British manufacturer ever to win the World Sports Car Constructors' Championship. Also on view is the Aston Martin DB7, the most popular and successful to be built by the company, which has now passed the 3,500 mark exceeding the combined achievements of the world famous James Bond cars - the DB6 and DB5. Recent changes to the Aston Martin DB7 range includes a redesign of the luggage compartment to provide an increase in accommodation of more than 30%. Aston Martin has constructed 5016 V8 engine models at Newport Pagnell since the DBS began production in 1970. Soon to be replaced by the top of the range V12 Vanquish flagship model the final V8 engine Aston Martin model was completed in August of this year and is scheduled for delivery to its new owner in the Middle East following the Show. More than 70% of new Aston Martins are now sold to customers outside the UK with more than 300 being delivered to owners in the USA and Canada. "Aston Martin is enjoying a period of unprecedented change," said Dr Ulrich Bez, chief executive of Aston Martin. "We are on course for an all time record year for both production and sales with the prospect of achieving even greater success in 2001. "Our dealers have firm customer orders for the DB7 Vantage for delivery in late Spring of next year and we know now that all of next year's production of V12 Vanquish has been sold," he added.
