Motorshow 2000

Renault Avantime offers grand touring to British motorists

Rear view of the Renault Avantime at the British International Motor Show, NEC Birmingham. Two years ago the car was viewed as a Concept car at the show, but now it should be on the British market late in 2001 featuring either a 2lt Turbo or a 3lt V6 24 valve engine and be on the market at a price between £25,000- £30,000.(Photo Martyn Hayhow)

Renault's electric blue production model of the Avantime has been attracting interest from many visitors to the International Motor Show in Birmingham, just over 18 months after it made its world debut as a concept car at the 1999 Geneva Salon. The three-litre V6 Avantime, which remains visually true to the concept, is the first in a proposed line up of top-range models from the French carmaker. The car boasts "Room to Breathe" - a promise is delivered by combining an extended windscreen and window area, including panoramic glass roof, with a raised driving position. Inside, the Avantime features advanced on-board technology, including the Carminat navigation system screen housed on the full-width dashboard. With the first UK sales of the Avantime due to start next year and a keen interest from Show visitors in the first week, Renault is confident of finding success in the luxury Grand Touring (GT) Coupe sector of the market.
