NEW ENGINE PLANT WILL EMPLOY 1,000, SAYS BMW A total of 1000 staff will be needed by BMW when a new GBP400 million engine factory is fully functioning later next year, the company said today at the International Motor Show. The plant at Hams Hall, near Coleshill in Warwickshire, will have a capacity to produce 400,000 4-cylinder engines a year - 2,000 a day. Due to be officially opened in February 2001, the plant will begin production early next year, with 1,000 jobs being reached as production gears up over the first year, according to Chris Willows, Corporate Communications Director for BMW (GB) Ltd. "The plant at Hams Hill represents a GBP400 million investment, which already employs 400 people, and willl eventually have 1,000 working there. "It is currently in the build-up phase and we expect production to begin early next year," said Mr Willows. BMW have not yet announced which models the engine will be provided
for, but it will be in many models across the Bavarian range. "Along with
our plans for the new MINI at Oxford and Rolls Royce, when we take control
of it at the beginning of 2003, the Hams Hill engine plant completes BMW's
premium brand strength strategy which sees us present in all the premium
brand sectors," Mr Willows added.
