Motorshow 2000

New Elise premieres at the British International Motorshow

Once again, at the British International Motorshow all eyes will be set on Lotus. The world famous sportscar manufacturer will exhibit six cars, and unveil the new Elise, a 21st century evolution of the 'world's best handling sports car'. The Elise has been the undisputed sports car king for more than five years, picking up countless awards on the way.

Now Lotus, never one to rest on its laurels, has redesigned a legend to the delight of fans all over the world. The Elise will make its mark in history as the first Lotus created on computer. This advanced digital process translates concept form to full size reality in a fraction of the time, dramatically reducing design effort and allowing the project to be completed in under one year. It fully signifies the Lotus philosophy of combining cutting-edge technology and world class design with top class performance and driving pleasure.

The new Elise has fresh styling inside and out with improved aerodynamics. Newly designed chassis systems provide superior ride and handling with higher levels of roadholding, sharper steering, more powerful brakes, quicker throttle response and overall greater functionality.

The all-round upgrade in quality underlines the fact that Lotus has become an automotive engineering powerhouse renowned for pairing excellence and innovation. Clients from all around the world deposit their trust with Lotus on over 50 major engineering projects. This year alone, 10% of all new cars sold in Europe will have a Lotus designed engine. And while the industry is trying to find answers to the recent fuel crisis, Lotus has been developing fuel-efficient engines that will radically change the way we drive. Lotus Engineering is working on a variety of systems such as the Direct In Cylinder Injection, Active Valve Train and Active Combustion that reduce both the fuel consumption and the emissions significantly.

With strategic acquisitions like the purchase of a new testing and development facility business in Michigan, USA, Lotus is also set to strengthen its global position even further by exporting its hi-tech UK engineering knowledge to the world's automotive epicentre.
