Motorshow 2000 GRINNALL MAKES THE CROWDS SMILE
Worcestershire-based Grinnall Specialist Cars spent five years designing
and building its five-cylinder, six-speed, turbo-charged circuit Scorpion
IV. And after its world debut at the International Motor Show in Birmingham
the company has already received 10 orders. The Scorpion IV has been
described by its creators as "supple and well controlled, with leech-like
road handling". "It's a car that can be compared with the Lotus 340r
but this car has higher specification as well as a roof," said owner
Mark Grinnall. "We have a fantastic car here and the attention we have
received has been great. There has been a lot of enthusiasts for niche
cars like Caterham who have been waiting a long time for this car. "We
have had a lot of dealers who want the car, we have had at least ten
orders and there's been a tremendous interest in it. Although the pre-production
testing programme is well underway, production performance figures have
not yet been released. But when deliveries begin in 2001 full weather
equipment, including doors and side-screens will be available. "I aimed
the car at Lotus customers and they are the people who have been most
interested in the car so the marketing was dead on," added Mr Grinnall.
