Sing Mozart!
St Philip’s Cathedral, Birmingham,
from 1.30pm on Saturday, 12th February.
Amateur singing enthusiasts are being invited to sing Mozart’s Requiem at a
‘bring it and sing it’ event in the magnificent surroundings of St Philip’s
Cathedral in Birmingham.
Sing Mozart! is being organised and run by the Birmingham-based Royal College of
Organists, and offers up to 300 choir members and other music enthusiasts the
chance to rehearse and perform the Requiem in one day along with Mozart’s Ave
verum corpus and Laudate Dominum.
The performance will be conducted by Malcom Archer, the newly appointed director
of music at St Paul’s Cathedral and is accompanied by Colin Walsh, organist
laureate of Lincoln Cathedral.
Simon Williams of the Royal College of Organists said: “This is a fantastic
opportunity for anyone in the Midlands with a love of music and choral singing.
“Anyone who knows this masterpiece will find the expert direction of Malcolm
Archer both stimulating and inspiring, and for those who haven’t sung the
Requiem before this represents a superb introduction to the work.
“By playing the orchestral parts on the organ we are reviving a great British
19th-century tradition. It brings the orchestral parts spectacularly to life."
Sing Mozart! is on at St Philip’s Cathedral,
Birmingham, from 1.30pm on Saturday, 12th February. It costs from £4 (for
students) up to £12, and there are discounts available for Royal
School of Church Music affiliated choir members. Audience tickets are available
