SHUGBOROUGH

www.shugborough.org.uk

The UK's only complete working historic estate

We have just visited Shugborough on what must have been the wettest Saturday of the year (possibly, ever!) but, despite the dismal weather, our visit was one of the best and most interesting I have ever made.

On arriving at Shugborough, visitors are encouraged to leave the 21st century behind and experience the real working environments of this historic estate where costumed 'first person' characters take you on a journey into the inner workings of the estate and bring real working environments to life.

Characters will tell you about their working days and share with you what it was like to be part of the community which was Shugborough - a community which prided itself on how well its staff were treated. Their informal conversations and snippets of information will really give you an insight into what life was like at this time - much more than any traditional guidebook or formal guide could do.

At Shugborough, there is something for everyone and to suit all ages - whether you like elegant houses, beautiful gardens or the more informal "hands on" approach in the Farm, Servants Quarters, Mill and Brewery, this unique estate can provide it all. There are also extensive grounds to wander or picnic in and a mini bus or train will take you around if you start to tire.

For more information, please visit Shugborough's own website www.shugborough.org.uk.

Our visit to Shugborough was made as part of a weekend visit to Staffordshire, during which we stayed overnight at the delightful Moat House Hotel  and also visited beautiful Weston Park  - please click on the links to see our other reviews.  You might also be interested in visiting www.enjoystaffordshire.com to find out about other places in the area.
