Martial Arts Thaiboxing (MUAY
THAI)
Sunday November 20th 2005
The Civic Hall, Wolverhampton

England call-up for Thai-boxer Reece Crooke
Wombourne Thai Boxer Reece faces a daunting comeback to the ring
on Sunday November 20th when
he takes on Komkit Sornchai, one of the very best fighters from
the Far East, on a mouth watering night of England versus Thailand
super fights.
For Crooke, who hasn’t fought since May when he suffered a badly
gashed head against Japan’s Nobuchika Terado at the NEC, there
couldn’t be a harder return to action than trying to beast one of
the masterful Thais at their own sport (Muay Thai, perhaps more
commonly known in the UK as Thaiboxing).
“Some people have said that I should have taken an easier
contest,” said bantamweight Crooke, “but representing my country
in my home town is something I could hardly turn my back on”.
He added: “At the NEC I was so disappointed that the fight had to
be stopped, so this contest against Komkit Sornchai is a great
chance to prove myself again on the world stage”.
It promises to be a highly tactical yet explosive night at the
Civic; indicative of the very considered way that the Thai
fighters handle themselves in the ring; relying more on their
highly skilful use of knees, kicks and elbows, compared arguably
to the superior boxing and punching power of the English.
Also featured on the 10-fight bill is the eagerly awaited return
to the UK of the amazing Thai ‘Torphatak’, who when he last fought
on these shores became one of the few men to beat Reece Crooke’s
elder brother Peter. This time, Torphatak takes on the highly
rated Kevin Harper, but top of the bill is England’s Liam Harrison
against one of the all time Thai Boxing greats, ‘Thailand
Pinsinchai’.
In addition to the main England versus Thailand superfights, there
is a full support card, which includes fighters from
Wolverhampton’s Firewalker Gym in Salisbury Street.
