A NOSTALGIC CELEBRATION OF THE 60TH
ANNIVERSARY OF VE DAY
The Glenn Miller Orchestra UK, directed by legendary bandleader
Ray McVay, head a nostalgic celebration of VE Day at
The NIA Academy on Sunday 8 May 2005 and you could be there to
commemorate too!
The audience will be swaying to unforgettable Forties hits and wartime chart
toppers, including Pennsylvania 65000, Chattanooga Choo Choo, Moonlight
Serenade, In The Mood and American Patrol, brought to life by a host of star
guests including Jan Messeder, Colin Anthony, The Uptown Hall Gang and The
Moonlight Serenaders.
The Glenn Miller Orchestra UK will also don World War II uniforms of the US Army
Air Force for the second half of the concert.
Also taking centre stage will be Joan Regan, singing the best loved songs of
Forces sweetheart Vera Lynn, including We’ll Meet Again and The White Cliffs of
Dover; the jumping, jiving, toe-tapping sensation that is The Clarke Brothers;
The Minting Sisters, a swinging tribute band of the fabulous Andrews Sisters;
and Natt Peck, an original member of Glenn’s Army Airforce Orchestra.
The VE Day Gala will be held on exactly the 60th anniversary of VE Day, 8 May
1945, when the British and Allies celebrated Victory in Europe. All over Britain
people celebrated the end of the six-year-long war, from neighbourly
celebrations to huge demonstrations in London, when Prime Minister, Winston
Churchill pronounced “This is your victory.”
