THE INTERNATIONAL WOODWORKING & TURNING
EXHIBITION
The International Woodworking and Turning Exhibition once again returns to Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre on the 4th – 6th October. The event is billed as the leading annual international event for woodworking and turning enthusiasts and there will be plenty on hand to interest both the expert and the newcomer to these fascinating crafts. For instance woodturning genius Steven Cooper will be staging a unique event at the show; with the help of a Hegner lathe, he will be turning a huge 4ft high vase – the biggest ever seen at an exhibition.
The vast range of masterclasses and workshop demonstrations that run throughout the show provide a stimulating introduction to carving,, turning and routing, including topics such as tool choice and maintenance and wood choice. Experts from the Register of Professional Turners, will also be on hand.
Enthusiasts will also have the opportunity to visit the ‘hands – on’ stand, where woodturning teacher Jamie Walwyn will offer visitors the chance of a twenty minute ‘ teach – in’ providing an introduction to the craft of woodworking. Special charity events are also an integral part of the show. These will include a ‘celebrity challenge’, whereby the experts turn pieces that will later be auctioned for charity. The two feature competitions at the show for woodturners and router users will once again generate an imposing display of craftmanship, with high value prizes from sponsors Craft Supplies and Record Power worth £3,700 on offer.
There will also be the opportunity to pick up a bargain from the many trade stands that will be at the show. With many special offers on tools, materials and equipment from leading manufacturers and distributors plus a wide range of specialist suppliers, the exhibition will represent an ideal opportunity to stock up on woodworking requisites.
